Stay Safe
Safety Tips
Crete's mountains and gorges are stunning but demanding. Follow these guidelines to keep your adventure safe and enjoyable.
Beat the Heat
Start early (before 8 AM in midsummer). Avoid the 12–4 PM sun. Drink water every 20 minutes, even if you don't feel thirsty.
Stay on the Trail
Follow your guide at all times. Cretan terrain hides loose rocks, thorny shrubs, and sudden drops. Never shortcut switchbacks.
Know Your Limits
Tell your guide about any health conditions, fear of heights, or fitness concerns. It's okay to turn back — your safety comes first.
Emergency Contacts
European emergency number: 112. Mountain rescue in Crete: 112 or 100. Your guide carries a satellite phone in remote areas.
Canyoning Rules
Never jump or abseil without your guide's clear instruction. Always check water depth before entering. Helmets stay on at all times.
Leave No Trace
Take all rubbish with you. Respect local flora and fauna. Don't stack cairns or disturb archaeological sites along the route.
